Buddleja davidii , commonly known as the Butterfly Bush, is perhaps the most well-known, and certainly one of the most spectacular, wildlife-friendly garden plants. With long spikes of flower clusters on large bushes with long arching or upright branches, they make a grand statement and bring vibrancy to any garden. But doing your bit for butterflies isn’t the only reason to plant our specially selected trio of this wonderful species. Happy in poor soil and drought tolerant, these plants thrive on neglect! Better still, whilst some of the more traditional varieties can have rather ‘washed out’ pale purple flowers, the varieties we have sourced give you a truly stunning range of colour.
‘Black Knight’ is the deepest, luxuriant dark purple with a lovely fragrance and can attract throngs of butterflies of many different species. Eventual height and spread : 2.5m
‘Royal Red’ give the richest purple-red scented flowers, set against striking lance-shaped leaves with silver-white undersides. Eventual height and spread: 3-4m
‘White Profusion’ has an RHS Award in recognition of its multiple attributes – enormous ice-white flower spikes all summer long, on a beautifully proportioned bush which will eventually reach 3m height.
